Lens Reviews, Actionscripting, and Color Pickers!
December 10, 2008
Well in this upcoming week I have a nice pair of Flash tutorials to get us through the weekend and hopefully next week some more Flash and an Illustrator tutorial, but after that things look quite bleak…no, no I am kidding. I actually have about 250 tutorials in a list on my desktop as I write and hopefully every last one of them will become a reality and I also already know some will need to be updated so that will be quite the task, but boy it will be great when you will be able to find a tutorial on anything, well virtually anything, on Tutvid? Personally I can’t wait because I sometimes forget how to do things I had made tutorials on! Anyway throughout the week a few things came up and there are a couple sites and little news I would like to share with everybody.
Picking color in Photoshop CS4 has gotten a little bit easier with this new color picker available over at John Nack of Adobe’s blog check it out! http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/12/photoshop_gets_1.html
Also in that post you can check out said, new color picker, download it for free, and view the installation instructions. It is now a little easier to fine tune some color picking especially when doing just about anything involving painting. All things considered it is pretty nice, a few things I would like to see changed, but having a bigger panel floating there for you to sample from is really easy to get used to.
Some of you know that I am a Canon shooter and for those of you that are Canon shooters as well you may well benefit from this next site. Essentially the guy running the site reviews and displays lots of info on a ton of Canon bodies, lenses, tripods, filters, accessories, and more! There are also some useful resources on the site.

A very common question I receive and answer on a regular basis has to do with learning actionscript 3.0 and readjusting oneself to the slightly different language. My answer more often than not is a recommendation I have for the book that sealed my move from 2.0 to 3.0. Rich Shupe and Zevan Rosser wrote a book called “Learning Actionscript 3.0” which is not advanced in anyway shape or form and is quite down-to-earth and easy to understand, I still find myself pulling it down from time to time to check on a thing or two! Check out the accompanying website and if you like it purchase the book! You will not be disappointed!

Last up this time around is actually a bonus. I just finished up writing to a very kind lady named Melissa. In passing conversation see passed me her website link and I checked out some of her photography and it is quite nice! Check out her work and maybe buy a thing or two from her site which is located here: http://www.photographybymelissab.com/ While you are over there look for a photo called “Swan Grace” a very nice photo.
Wow, I could not agree more on Learning ActionScript 3. It is the best ActionScript book I have ever read. It is the book that finally turned the lightbulb on over my head when learning AS3. The Moock book is like a cinderblock for me, and Learning ActionScript 3 helped me get through.
Thanks for the tip on the PS color picker. That blog is a major discovery for me. I love how forthright John Nack is.
Greetings from Norway! Thanks for your great tutorials, and for the tips in this blog. When will you make tutorials on InDesign?
Hey Erik,
I am hoping to serve up some InDesign material at some point. It has just been a little bit since I have even used the program, but you are not alone in asking.
Have a good one!
N.
hey nate,
maybe can you start posting the actionscript codes for your tutorials because ive been doing them lately and soetimes my project gets deleted and its hard to copy the codes again. Also it would be helpfull for us viewers because instead of haveing to pause the video for 5 mins. to copy the codes we can just copy and paste them.
